A Prayer of Living Creation
O Lord of mountain, sea, and sky,
Whose stars are hung in halls on high,
Whose breath gives wings to birds in flight,
Whose dawn unfolds the gift of light,
Teach us to walk with humble care,
To find Your fingerprints everywhere;
In rivers winding to the sea,
In forests swaying wild and free.
May mountains stand in noble grace,
Like pillars holding time and place;
May valleys keep what ages know,
And teach our wandering hearts to grow.
May forests lift their emerald praise,
Their leaves alight with golden rays;
Like living windows they proclaim
The quiet splendor of Your name.
May every river sing Your song,
And carry hope the whole day long;
May every stream and ocean tide
Reflect the love in which they glide.
Teach us, Lord, what waters teach:
That strength is found in those who reach;
Not by force nor by command,
But by the patience to withstand.
May clouds drift softly through the blue,
And show us what the faithful do;
For they release what they possess,
And fall as rain the earth to bless.
May every storm become a guide,
Not something merely to survive;
For often through the thunder’s roll
You shape the landscape of the soul.
Lord, bless the creatures great and small,
The soaring hawk, the sparrow’s call;
The hidden fish, the grazing deer,
All lives sustained because You’re near.
May fields become a lesson plain,
That loss and harvest both remain;
For every seed beneath the sod
Must trust the unseen hand of God.
Grant us the wisdom trees impart:
To root ourselves with steadfast heart;
To stretch toward light through changing weather,
And hold the earth and sky together.
Teach us to plant though we may not
Be present when the fruit is brought;
To build for children yet unborn,
And bless a distant future morn.
May cities shine with gentle flame,
Not seeking wealth or earthly fame;
But glowing like a lantern bright
To guide a traveler through the night.
May every road through hill and plain
Increase compassion, lessen pain;
May every journey help us see
A wider truth, more graciously.
May learning rise from stream and stone,
From paths where curiosity’s grown;
May wonder be the open door
Through which we seek and still explore.
Lord, keep our hearts from grasping hands
That measure life by owned lands;
Instead teach us the higher art
Of stewardship in mind and heart.
When pride would place us on a throne,
Remind us none stand here alone;
The river needs the mountain crest,
The bird requires a place to nest.
The forest needs the rain to fall,
The ocean welcomes every small
And winding stream that seeks its place
Within the vastness of its grace.
So may we live in such a way
That kindness grows from day to day;
That every word and deed may prove
The quiet strength of selfless love.
Let wisdom flourish, peace increase,
Let fear diminish, conflict cease;
Let mercy guide what power can do,
And make our spirits brave and true.
O Lord, when all our days are through,
May what remains point back to You;
Not monuments of stone and gold,
But lives through which Your light was told.
May every garden that we tend
Become a blessing without end;
May every burden that we bear
Transform at last to answered prayer.
May every neighbor be a friend,
May broken things find ways to mend;
May every act, both great and small,
Reveal Your presence over all.
Until the earth in beauty sings,
And every heart with gratitude rings;
Until creation, far and near,
Reflects the love that brought it here.
For Yours the morning and the night,
The seed, the star, the wing in flight;
The stream, the sky, the shore, the sea—
All praise returns, O Lord, to Thee.
Amen.
