Why do life sciences researchers conduct experiments in microgravity? One reason is that cells behave differently in space. Instead of growing in flat layers, cells can form three-dimensional structures that more closely resemble human tissue. That can give researchers a more realistic environment for studying disease and evaluating potential treatments. Microgravity can also accelerate certain biological changes, allowing researchers to observe processes related to aging and disease over shorter periods of time. These are some of the reasons microgravity has become an important tool for life sciences research. Starlab is being developed to help expand access to that research environment after the ISS era.

$VOYG "Voyager Space is not a competitor to SpaceX. SpaceX is a broad space enterprise, while Voyager is an infrastructure company that works in partnership with them. Additionally, Voyager’s Starlab is a commercial space station project built through international collaboration.

$RDW ✨ The Space Race Is Coming for Pharma: Why Drug Development Is Heading to Low Earth Orbit CNBC highlights how microgravity-based pharmaceutical research is moving from experimentation toward commercialization. Key developments: ✅ Redwire's SpaceMD has flown 54 PIL-BOX units to space ✅ 37 drug compounds have already been tested in orbit ✅ Eli Lilly $LLY , Bristol Myers Squibb $BMY , and other pharmaceutical companies are participating ✅ Merck's Keytruda research on the ISS helped support development of a new injectable version approved by the FDA in 2025 Why microgravity matters: • Higher-quality protein crystals • Potentially easier drug delivery • Reduced need for lengthy hospital infusions • Improved drug stability and storage Redwire believes space can help unlock promising drug candidates that fail on Earth due to crystallization and stability challenges. As the ISS approaches retirement, commercial space stations such as Vast and Starlab are expected to become the next generation of orbital research platforms. The future of space may extend far beyond satellites and rockets — into medicine, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. cnbc.com/2026/06/09/space-ra… #RDW #Redwire #SpacePharma #Biotech #SpaceTech #LLY #BMY #Merck
