The Puente Alcantara #Roman bridge in Toledo, Spain spanning the river Tagus. It was refurbished in the Middle Ages and one of its original three arches was filled in (reduced to the size of an arched doorway) perhaps to give it greater stability. #AncientSiteSunday

Sad news as an icon of the golden hippy era in Ibiza is in hospital with terminal cancer. "I'm ending my life as I've lived it, surrounded by friends." "The grandson of an Apache Indian, with a French father, Ferdinand Guy Jocelyn, and a Vietnamese mother, Tagus, he is descended from a noble and landowning family from Martinique. Born on a ship at sea, he has never understood borders, only humanity, since arriving in Ibiza in search of freedom and a nomadic life: “Ibiza has given me everything: freedom, feathers, dreadlocks. It has returned me to my origins and allowed me to live as I have wanted. The goddess Tanit baptized me with her name. My father is the Sun and my mother, the Moon, and I am a free and wandering star traveling across the firmament.”

Giant albino Wels Catfish (Silurus glanis) in the River Tiétar downstream of Torrejón-Tiétar Dam, Extremadura, Spain, May 2026. This species is native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia and is among the largest freshwater fish in Europe. It is non-native in Spain and was first recorded in the Tagus basin in 2001. Since its introduction, populations of other fish species have undergone substantial declines, particularly the vulnerable endemic Iberian Barbel (Luciobarbus comizo). Because albinism removes their natural dark camouflage, albino Wels Catfish face unique survival challenges as juveniles. However, if they reach adulthood, their massive size leaves them with few natural predators. This dam was built in 1966 and is located on the River Tiétar, upstream of its confluence with the River Tagus. It operates in tandem with the nearby Torrejón-Tajo Dam on the Tagus, with water being pumped between the two reservoirs to generate hydroelectric power. Both dams are located within Monfragüe National Park.
