Xinjiang’s Tianshan Shengli Tunnel – the world’s longest expressway tunnel – opened on Dec. 26, 2025. As part of the G0711 Urumqi-Yuli Expressway, the 22.13-km Tunnel goes through the mountains. Travel time across the central Tianshan range cut from 3 hours to just 20 minutes. The trip from Urumqi to Korla now takes 3.5 hours instead of 7. The expressway is more than a road.
