Sandro Tonali remains a highly-rated midfielder, but Manchester United are unlikely to pursue a move this summer for one simple reason which is value for money but not denying his quality.
Fabrizio Reports suggest that any attempt to sign both Tonali and Lewis Hall from Newcastle could cost around £120m-£130m. For a club still rebuilding multiple areas of the squad, that is a huge financial commitment.
The issue has never been Tonali's quality, United admire him. The problem is that Newcastle are under no pressure to sell and would demand a premium fee, while his wages would further increase the total cost of the deal.
As a result, United are expected to focus on midfielders who offer a better balance between quality, age profile, and cost. Players such as Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott, and Carlos Baleba.
Lewis Hall, meanwhile, remains a player United genuinely appreciate because of his versatility and long-term potential.
Tonali is admired, but the amount required to be spent to complete his transfer simply don't make sense for Manchester United's current rebuild.
