All HSE regions can now offer a 'virtual ward' option to patients. This means that instead of staying in a hospital bed, eligible patients can receive acute, hospital-level care and constant monitoring from the comfort of their own sitting room. Patients are given wearable devices and tablets that send their vital signs (like heart rate and blood pressure) directly to a dedicated team of nurses and doctors. One patient on a virtual ward recently received a call from his medical team when his blood pressure suddenly spiked. The reason?
