if you're a waterloo freshman, here are some co-op tips: if you're applying: - waterlooworks makes it slightly easier, but it's not a cheat code, you still have to have good projects and decent interpersonal skills for the interview - 30:45:25 is the ideal ratio of ambitious : moderate : safe applications, regardless of which cycle you're in - it only takes one yes (in my first co-op I had 300 applications, internal external, i only got 1 interview which led to an offer) - how much you make is mostly irrelevant. this applies for all your co-ops, even your last one - flexing your offer/hourly is ngmi behaviour if you've already started / are working: - save most of your income and put it towards school next semester - this is a personal thing but i always allowed myself one fancy purchase per co-op term, which was usually some high-quality peripheral or work thing -- helps in building your work setup by the time you graduate

the concept of dottore going to e7 room 5343 for lectures as a first year while he sits in the same spot as someone once did. no the idea of dottore on coop with the fatui. the idea of the fatui on waterlooworks.

WaterlooWorks has a bad ui, no resume matching, no pay visibility, I built goosehunt to fix that — scrapes Employer Direct via WW's own JS API, scores every posting against your resume with sentence embeddings, parses comp, local FastAPI/Alpine.js UI

I have some life updates to share! I'm finally done both recruiting and my first year at waterloo I'll be moving to New York City this summer to work at @phoebe_work_ as a software engineering intern! This past semester has been pretty grindy with balancing school, recruiting, and a part-time but it's been very rewarding First co-op hunt has also been pretty difficult. Went 0/55 on waterlooworks and failed a lot of interviews (especially in the beginning of the cycle). However, a lot of people have helped me out by warm introing, mock interviews, and much more, making this process a whole lot easier for me. I have a lot of ppl to thank. For Phoebe specifically, I'm very grateful to @adiprasadd @shayaan_azeem for the intro, @jrwoodbridge for the quick and smooth hiring process, and fellow intern @casperdongg for helping me navigate with visas and more 🙏 It's been a good year and I'm excited for my next chapter. hmu if you're in nyc this summer!

Waterlooworks is useful for your first coops when you’re basically unemployable. After that you’re always better off AOJing

@UWaterloo, find us on WaterlooWorks!
It’s @UWaterloo co-op hiring season again! We just hired three Waterloo interns, and I’ve been genuinely impressed by the quality of work they’ve shipped in just the past month. Don’t take my word for it though, see what Alex, Jonathan, and Madhav say about @jurinaiofficial. Now, I know a lot of top North American talent is hesitant about Japan. Totally fair. But FAANG isn’t going anywhere next term or the next decade. If you’re early in your career, Japan is a rare longer, more interesting detour worth taking. Come to Japan. Build with us. Have some fun along the way.
