events that 99% of players never experienced in pokemon.
back in 2005, a special event took place in japan that almost no one outside the country ever got to try. this event was the 2005 festa and pokemon emerald players via the mystery event feature got the old sea map.
using the old sea map let players sail to a secret hidden location known as faraway island. there, deep in the grass, players were able to catch mew. the map was only given out once more in taiwan in 2006 if you bought a movie ticket for pokemon rangers movie and the temple of the sea (players should had a japanese version of pokemon emerald). the rest of the world never received it officially, even though the code for the entire event was hidden inside every language version of emerald.
catching mew also included a mini game. it wasn’t a normal battle. mew would constantly run away and hide in the tall grass, forcing players into a hide and seek chase. players had to follow its flickering tail and carefully corner it before it would finally let you battle.
this event was also the only legitimate way in the main series to shiny hunt mew. unlike almost every other mew distribution, the faraway island mew was not shiny locked, so dedicated players could soft reset trying to find a shiny version.
