Almost three years since we hosted @AIBFirstDraft in Ahmedabad for the first time. I reached out to random number in the event description and asked the person if we can make this happen in Ahmedabad. Now we know that person as a cutie @inaveedm
What a fun chat this was with @thetanmay@satysingh@KDevanshuSingh and @kalwani09! A mini reunion of sorts for @AIBFirstDraft! For any new writers who are trying to figure things around our industry, maybe listening to this will help. We've tried answering some questions.
When you see this, you see a movie poster. When I see this, I see characters who were first created by writer @kalwani09 during the 6-month course @AIBFirstDraft.
What a feeling to see something created in solitude by a hard working student of screenwriting find shape and color!
#AIBFirstDraft alumnus @AratiRaval is one of the finest writers in town. If you don't know her yet, you will, soon. I'd do anything to have her as my writing partner. And as I often tell her, every human needs to have a friend like her. Congratulations Arati! Many more to come!
And I could meet (and then mentor) @kalwani09 because @thetanmay allowed me to conduct @AIBFirstDraft. Hundreds of people are now a part of this dream that was conceived in a classroom, thanks to the faith @thetanmay had in me and all students.
Oh absolutely. Parenting is damn bloody hard and it’s about time we begin normalizing equal responsibilities.
@AbhiTalkies sat at home for 6 months so that I could complete @AIBFirstDraft when our son was 5 months old and people couldn’t believe it because it’s so uncommon.
The best advice for any writer. Cannot thank @satysingh and @AIBFirstDraft for making this not just our classroom practice, but pretty much our way of working since 2016.
Start a WRITERS GROUP --
1. Keep it SMALL. ~5 people.
2. Meet EVERY WEEK to workshop each other's writing.
3. Everyone submits at least ONCE A MONTH.
4. SHUT UP AND LISTEN while you're getting feedback.
And
5. Don't go to draft until the GROUP APPROVES THE OUTLINE.
The script for the film was developed in our residency program on screenwriting @AIBFirstDraft
Congratulations @thetanmay. Let us do the next batch of First Draft soon!
Recently watched the movie #ChintuKaBirthday. It just remind me my school days and closing of schools now and then. It also remind me the atrocities of the CAPF and other elements, who are responsible for disturbing my childhood in #Kashmir.
@SariaW
This one is from @SeherKMalik - who was my student at @AIBFirstDraft and is one of the most gifted artists I personally know - and this moment is without doubt one of the most loved moments from the film.
