The DravIdiot Instagram account “_hint_media_” appears to be promoting a selective interpretation of history to build a particular narrative against Sanatana Dharma.
According to the claims being made, Buddhism was at its peak until Brahmins, with the support of kings, stopped cow slaughter and established Sanatana Dharma in its place. It is also argued that Brahmins once consumed meat and later began revering the cow. In addition, opposition to beef consumption is often portrayed as nothing more than an attempt to target Muslims.
The account further claims that these assertions are supported by various texts and scriptures. However, the existence of a claim in a book or an ideological publication does not automatically make it historical fact. History must be examined through evidence, multiple sources, context, and scholarly scrutiny not through selective quotations that support a predetermined conclusion.
Another important point is routinely ignored.
Sanatana Dharma is not a caste. It is not synonymous with Brahmins. Sanatana Dharma is a vast civilizational and spiritual tradition encompassing diverse communities, languages, customs, philosophies, and forms of worship. It represents the collective heritage of millions of Hindus across regions and social backgrounds.
Yet some ideological groups continue to promote the misleading notion that “Sanatana Dharma = Brahmins.” This oversimplification reduces a complex and ancient civilization to a single social group and makes it easier to direct hostility toward the broader tradition.
A few simple questions deserve answers:
• Beef consumption is permissible in Islam, but it is not a mandatory religious obligation or a foundational pillar of the faith.
• Do many contemporary Buddhists and Neo-Buddhists around the world not consume meat, including beef?
• If hundreds of millions of Indians regard the cow as sacred, why is the slaughter of an animal revered by the majority often defended while their religious sentiments are dismissed?
• If mutual respect is expected for all faiths and communities, should the deeply held beliefs of Hindus not receive the same consideration?
Historical debate is welcome. Critical examination is welcome. But selective narratives, half-truths, and ideologically motivated interpretations should be questioned just as rigorously as any other claim.
Criticizing Sanatana Dharma is one thing. Misrepresenting history, caricaturing an entire civilization, and reducing a diverse tradition to a political stereotype is something else entirely.
Arguments should be answered with arguments. Historical claims should be tested with evidence. Narratives should not be accepted simply because they are repeated often enough.
