Probably we as physicists should keep our scornful fire for the physics grifters. I do realize everyone seems to feel strong positions are required on covid origins, I personally think we needlessly undermine our credibility by being so assertive on issues where we are clearly not experts. It might be argued that a similar thing might apply to climate change, but on that issue the real experts all agree on the crucial facts: that warming is happening and is man-made. By contrast for covid the only real agreement seems to be that everyone else’s theory of origins is wrong. For me it isn’t sufficient that some of the advocates on either side also take clearly wrong positions in other areas (like climate change). Good people - particularly academics - having assertively bad takes seems common in culture wars online and we risk having physics expertise being regarded as just another example of that. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not desperate for conversation I talk to people all the time, I'm married with children. That being said I do like to present my best self, and I'd agree my comment was over the top. I'll say I was out of pocket towards AG. I was too assertive and condescending. I assumed a lot about someone I don't know, and pushed a personal opinion of mine a bit too hard, and I'll even contradict that opinion by saying, everyone who pushes Atheist ideology doesn't need to study theology, although I do think it would be extremely helpful in understanding the point of views they are contesting. This also isn't the first time I've said something like this to someone about this comment because it's my genuine feeling towards it. I'm not just saying it because you asked me to, but I'm repeating it to you because you brought it up. You don't have to converse with me, but if you'd like to I am around. That being said I'm not a fan of discrimination towards people of faith. That morning my feed was being pelted with it, and I was a bit grouchy about it, but I think I posted that comment in the wrong feed because after looking at AG's page she actually does seem pretty chill. There's a couple other people though that post a lot more degenerate stuff that gets me going sometimes.
