Constructed in 1937 as part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, the Daytona Beach Bandshell has been a centerpiece of entertainment along the city’s oceanfront for generations. Built during the Great Depression, the project provided jobs for local workers while creating a public gathering space that would serve the community for decades to come.
Located along the historic Daytona Beach Boardwalk, the open-air amphitheater was designed with coquina rock and a distinctive seashell-shaped stage that reflects its coastal setting. From its earliest years, the Bandshell quickly became a focal point for concerts, civic celebrations and community gatherings along the beach.
Throughout the 20th century, the venue hosted a wide range of performances, from big band and swing-era concerts to local community shows and seasonal entertainment. As Daytona Beach grew into a major tourism destination, the Bandshell remained a beloved spot where residents and visitors could gather to enjoy music with the Atlantic Ocean as the backdrop.
Today, the historic Bandshell continues that tradition, hosting concerts, festivals and special events throughout the year, including the popular summer concert series and fireworks displays that draw crowds to the Boardwalk and oceanfront.
Nearly nine decades after its construction, the Daytona Beach Bandshell remains one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and a lasting reminder of the community spirit that helped shape Daytona Beach.
