A little update on the chicks 🐥
We've officially been taken off chick duty, mostly because it makes more sense for us to focus on the animals and very large projects at the back of the property while the family looks after the animals closer to the house.
We're incredibly proud that all 12 chicks made it safely to the 4-week mark under our care.
Since then, they've transitioned into the next stage in the coop with the hens and are no longer our responsibility.
We were saddened to hear last evening that one chick and one duckling were recently lost.
We don't know the details, but sometimes these things simply happen in farming, when raising animals.
From picking them up in a teeny box to brooder setups, feed changes, daily checks and watching them grow, this has been an invaluable learning experience for us.
We're really grateful for the time we had with them and are hoping the rest of the flock continues to do well.🦆🐥💛
