Origins and Founding (2021): Irys, originally named Bundlr Network, was founded to address the challenges of data storage and verification in blockchain ecosystems. The platform aimed to solve the issue of "data islands" by creating a scalable infrastructure for permanent data storage with precise attribution of data origins. It was built to integrate with existing blockchain networks like Arweave, focusing on enabling developers to store and manage data efficiently for decentralized applications. Key Developments: - 2021–2022 (Bundlr Network Era): Launched as Bundlr Network, the platform focused on providing a high performance data network for Web3 applications. The platform has actively engaged its community, iterating features like leaderboards based on user feedback, adding regional filters and expanded rankings. Irys has also formed partnerships bridging Web2 and Web3, promoting an ethical revenue model where users own their data. - 2025 (Pre-TGE and Current Status): Irys is preparing for its Token Generation Event (TGE), expected in August 2025, and is currently in its pre mainnet testnet phase. It has garnered attention for its focus on AI and data provenance, offering a solution for journalists, developers and AI models needing uncensorable and verifiable data. The platform continues to build its ecosystem, with community driven development and a presence on platforms like GitHub and Galxe for community engagement and credentialing.
