Microsoft has launched the consumer versions of the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 globally on June 17, completing a two-stage rollout that began in May with Intel-powered enterprise models. Both new consumer devices are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 — the most powerful Snapdragon chip Microsoft has ever shipped in a Surface — and are now available in China simultaneously with international markets.
The Surface Pro 12 starts at $1,499 and the Surface Laptop 8 at $1,599, with business configurations following on July 14 at $1,649.99. Both devices come in 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus and 12-core X2 Elite configurations. Microsoft claims up to 53% faster graphics over the previous Snapdragon X generation and 80 TOPS of NPU performance for AI tasks.
The Surface Pro 12 is a 13-inch convertible with a 3:2 aspect ratio, available in standard LCD or optional OLED display configurations. Base spec is 16GB RAM and 256GB storage, scaling to 32GB RAM and 1TB. Claimed battery life is up to 15.5 hours, and the device comes in Platinum, Black, and a new Dune colorway with a matching Flex Keyboard.
The enterprise Intel variants launched in May tell a slightly different story. The Surface Pro 12 for Business uses Intel Core Ultra 5 335 and Core Ultra 7 366H processors — Intel's Panther Lake platform — with LPDDR5X RAM options of 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB, and offers either 120Hz IPS or OLED display options. The Surface Laptop 8 for Business features Intel Arc B390 integrated graphics — a meaningful step up from standard Intel graphics — making it the more graphics-capable option between the two Intel-based configurations.
The Surface Pro 12 for Business can also be configured with optional 5G cellular connectivity from launch, a feature Microsoft has been slow to bring to its Surface lineup. The Surface Slim Pen now supports a new haptic feedback system across both models.
Microsoft has positioned the Intel-powered Surface for Business line as an x86 portfolio built around sustained performance, layered enterprise security, and user-focused design — with Snapdragon X2 consumer models serving a different priority set focused on battery life and thin-and-light portability. Snapdragon X2 business editions are expected to follow later in 2026.
