Last week and on the margins of the SRTF Boards' meetings, we were pleased to host representatives of its Board Members, including
@KfW_FZ_int and
@JPEmbassy_Syria, on a site visit to one of its flagship projects in
#Darayya,
#Rural_Damascus, the Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Initiative (Phase I).
During the visit, the delegation observed ongoing rehabilitation activities, including the
#removal_of_rubble,
#restoration of the
#water_tank, the
#water_well, and the public park. The park’s
#creative_design which resembles
#bunch_of_grapes inspired by Darayya’s iconic grapes, celebrates the city’s heritage and community identity.
Visitors also learned about the project’s environmentally friendly practices, such as
#recycling construction materials to
#reduce_waste and promote
#sustainability. They met with
#community members and
#cash_for_work beneficiaries, many of whom are directly contributing to the project’s success while earning a livelihood.
The SRTF Director General
@hanikhabbaz commented:
“This project in Darayya demonstrates how recovery can be both sustainable and inclusive. By engaging local communities and integrating environmentally responsible practices, we are not only restoring essential services but also helping rebuild lives and strengthen hope for a better future.”
This initiative marks a meaningful step toward restoring essential services, enhancing public spaces, and empowering the Darayya community.
