Hospital Melaka dibina pada awal 1930an dan telah dirasmikan pada 12 Februari 1934. Sebagai sebuah hospital kerajaan berpakar di Melaka, hospital ini mempunyai 133 orang pakar dengan 21 sub kepakaran.
Keutamaan strategik Hospital Melaka 2025 hingga 2030 memfokuskan pendigitalan rekod perubatan (peralihan sistem lama ke sistem EMR penuh pada 2027),anatomi kluster & sinergi hospital kluster (pengukuhan casemix budgeting & niche pembedahan di Hospital Jasin dan niche perubatan di Hospital Alor Gajah), halatuju perkhidmatan baru (penambahan servis baharu; kepakaran onkologi, servis ICL & angiogram dan pembinaan WCC yang dijangka siap pada 2031) dan Centre of Excellent (COE) sebagai pusat rujukan dan latihan kepakaran zon selatan (perubatan sukan, burn centre, emergency critical care).
