Isn't that the point of racing? And, in fact, I don't know anyone who would choose to root for Cruz over Lightning McQueen. Actually, not even in the original movie.
final race, and ultimately would’ve ended his arc before the movie was over. The draft of him racing for dinoco would’ve led to divide amongst fans between Cruz and McQueen. I think the ending was perfect as McQueen was the one to forfeit on his own terms and race Cruz instead.
An early draft showed McQueen getting fired before the final race with Cruz taking the 95. McQueen would get picked up by Dinoco and rep the number 51 and in Doc’s livery. Although the final version was the best ending as another early version showed McQueen not even be in the-
