My friends, it's time to look at the Huge Security Flaw that affected cPanel! Apparently, this scary hole was running since late February... 😳 It was a massive flaw that allowed anyone to connect as "root" to the server, easily, just by tweaking the user session a little... 💥 cPanel has the lives of millions of people in its hands. It's an Ultra-Premium Solution that is Extremely Expensive for the service provided! Nowadays, "AI" like Claude, Gemini (and so on), can audit the code security of software like cPanel, and detect security holes that would have been ignored by humans. They even excel at it. ❌ This obvious security hole should never have passed, especially not in 2026! It's negligence. cPanel was bought 8-years ago by an investment company whose priority seems to be "profits", before "innovation" and concernes like "security". I therefore invite each of you... - end-users of cPanel, - hosting providers, - dedicated server owners... - everyone! ...to take advantage of this incident to sincerely think about the opinion you have on this so-called "Market Leader Standard Web Solution etcetera". In April 2024 (exactly 2 years ago 🎂), we made the bet for @MassiveHoster, to launch a web hosting provider "WITHOUT cPanel", because of their unpredictable pricing (which increases every year with a ~ 2 month notice without any notable innovation)... But also, because serious and reliable alternatives exist! We made the choice of DirectAdmin. A panel launched in 2002 whose forum contains hundreds of thousands of Topics! It's not a newborn baby. We configured our DirectAdmin panel for that users enjoy an experience that is as close as possible to cPanel with the famous Home full of icons. And out of about 700 customers for this young project, we received, like, 5 feedbacks from people who said they did not like our panel and wanted to go back to cPanel at EasyHoster, o2switch or others. All the rest of our customer-base got used to DirectAdmin in a few hours/days! On the technical side, cPanel advises its entire ecosystem to reinstall all their servers from scratch (a humanly IMPOSSIBLE task for the majority of hosting providers); all this relying on a bash script supposed to indicate if the "exploit" was used or not, but very poorly coded, which therefore systematically generates false positives. "[!] INDICATORS OF COMPROMISE DETECTED - IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED" Concerns ~ all servers... Cold and brutal recommendation: "If the server is confirmed to be root-compromised, you will need to migrate the cPanel accounts to a known clean server. Or alternatively, reinstall the operating system on the server and restore the accounts from backups." But yeees, of course! because this kind of work is done in 4-hours 🤡 (NO, 4-weeks) Zero empathy, respect, or assistance in this worrying situation! Personally, it lowers my trust. What am I paying for? And you, what do you think? If you view the monopoly of this ultra-expensive solution in a bad light, small Likes or RTs are always welcome.

Les amis, il est temps de revenir sur l'Énorme Faille de Sécurité qui a touché cPanel ! Apparemment, le truc court quand même depuis fin-février… C'était une faille énorme qui permettait de se connecter en « root » au serveur, tranquilou, en bricolant juste un peu la session utilisateur… 💥 cPanel a la vie de millions de gens entre ses mains. C'est une solution ultra-premium extrêmement chère pour le service rendu ! De nos jours, des IA comme Claude, Gemini, etc, peuvent auditer la sécurité du code d'un software comme cPanel, et détecter des failles qui auraient été ignorées par des humains. Elles excellent même pour cela. ❌ Cette faille évidente n'aurait jamais dû passer, surtout pas en 2026 ! Il y a eu négligence. cPanel a été racheté il y a 8 ans par une boîte d'investissement dont la priorité semble être la rentabilité, avant l'innovation et la sécurité. J'invite donc chacun de vous… - utilisateurs finaux de cPanel, - hébergeurs, - propriétaires de serveurs dédiés… - tous ! …à profiter de cet incident pour sincèrement revoir l'avis que vous avez sur cette soi-disant Solution Standard Pionnière du Web, Leader de son Marché, et tout le toutim. En avril 2024 (il y a tout pile 2 ans 🎂), on a fait le pari pour @MassiveHoster, de lancer un hébergeur « sans cPanel », à cause de ses tarifs imprévisibles (qui augmentent tous les ans avec un préavis de ~ 2 mois sans innovation notable)… Mais aussi, car des alternatives sérieuses et fiables existent ! Nous avons fait le choix de DirectAdmin. Un panel lancé en 2002 dont le forum contient des centaines de milliers de Topics ! Ce n'est pas un lapin de six semaines. Nous avons configuré notre panel DirectAdmin pour que l'expérience-utilisateur soit au plus proche de cPanel. Et sur environ 700 clients pour ce jeune projet, nous avons reçu, genre, 5 témoignages de gens qui disaient ne pas aimer notre panel et qui voulaient revenir à cPanel chez EasyHoster, o2switch ou autre. Il n'y aura évidemment aucun "geste commercial" et ils risquent de quand même augmenter leurs tarifs en 2027, comme chaque année. @cPanel Las últimas 48 horas en nuestra empresa han sido bastante movidas. Confiamos la mayoría de nuestros servidores a un panel de control de hosting que llevamos usando 23 años. Durante todo este tiempo, cPanel ha sido un socio indispensable en nuestro crecimiento y fundamental para ofrecer soporte a nuestros clientes; pero, de un tiempo a esta parte, esa confianza se ha roto. cPanel, al igual que Plesk, fue comprado por un fondo de inversión. No tenemos nada en contra de eso, sin embargo, después de esa adquisición ha habido un aumento de precios permanente cada 1 de enero desde hace unos cinco o seis años. Esto ha hecho que el coste de las licencias se multiplique, en algunos casos, por 10. No es una subida del IPC ni nada parecido. Las empresas de hosting que confiamos en cPanel como panel de control nos planteamos cada año dejar de usarlo debido a estas subidas de precio sin sentido y sin una contraprestación real: 1. Migrar a DirectAdmin: Podría ser una opción, pero al menos para nosotros no es viable ni es un panel que nos guste. 2. Migrar a Plesk: Menos todavía; es un panel horrible. ¿Se ha actualizado cPanel en los últimos tiempos ofreciendo nuevas tecnologías o productos punteros que hagan que la subida de precios merezca la pena? No. Incluir el WP Toolkit o el SiteJet Builder no es suficiente para triplicar el precio de la licencia. Meter Beesocial (que es una especie de demo de un plugin para redes sociales), al igual que el plugin de Monitoring, nos parece una broma y una falta de respeto a los partners. Pero las dos gotas que colman el vaso son: 1. La oferta de servicios de adquisición de certificados SSL: Ahora los ofrecen a través de nuestro propio panel hacia ellos. Esto viene incluido en el paquete "default" y se activa por defecto. No es una opción que podamos controlar o activar si nos apetece; simplemente, en una actualización, nos encontramos con enlaces a la tienda de cPanel para que nuestros clientes compren al precio que ellos quieran. Es un golpe bajo para los partners que llevamos soportando a esta empresa demasiados años. 2. La vulnerabilidad de seguridad: Lo último ha pasado en las últimas 48 horas, y es que el login como root vía WHM en cPanel se ha visto comprometido en todas sus versiones. Desde la versión 86.0.40 hasta la versión 134.0.19, todas las versiones de cPanel son vulnerables. Y cuando digo vulnerables, es que pueden entrar como root o administrador. Nuestra empresa tiene unos 150 servidores con cPanel. Ayer nos enteramos de la noticia del hackeo sobre las 10:00 horas y a las 15:00 horas (solo cinco horas después) ya habíamos parcheado todos los servidores. Por su parte, cPanel envió un correo interno a los partners —al menos a nosotros— a las 22:20 horas. Esta mañana nos hemos encontrado con dos servidores hackeados por dos motivos principales: 1. Se nos pasó parchearlos ayer. 2. Uno era un servidor muy antiguo que tenían incluso la versión 86 de cPanel porque el cliente así lo quería. Tenía una web muy antigua y, aunque lo teníamos controlado a nivel de firewall, el cliente quería mantener esa versión. Nosotros siempre habíamos avisado de la posibilidad de que el servidor fuera hackeado, como así ha sido. Además del problema de IP, red, etc por eso lo teniamos más aislado. Pero da igual, es lo de menos, ha sido hackeado un servidor con CloudLinux 9 y la versión de cPanel 134.0.16 De 150 servidores, dos han sido comprometidos. El problema no son esos dos servidores en sí, sino que, si ayer no hubiéramos actuado de manera diligente y rápida, esto se podría haber convertido en la ruina de nuestra empresa. El hackeo de root que hemos visto hoy hace que los servidores queden casi inservibles, porque modifica absolutamente todos los archivos de cPanel. Suponemos que es un hack ejecutado por una IA, porque un humano no puede causar tal estrago como el que hemos visto en uno de los servidores afectados (aunque él lo haya preparado, pero la ejecución no es de él). Hemos detectado el uso de VPS de @Vultr con IPs "45.32.35.241" y "136.244.66.225" Simplemente queremos decir que, aunque cPanel fue un socio válido durante muchísimos años, hoy ha perdido toda nuestra confianza, primero por el hack del login en si, que parece de broma, y sobre todo por la nula profesionalidad desmostrada en sus comunicaciones ante un asunto tran importante.

Siber güvenlik bir refleks meselesi. 2017’den bu yana çıkan neredeyse tüm Linux kernel’larını etkileyen bir zafiyet düşünün. Sadece “local user” ile root elde edilebiliyor. Default config ile geliyor, ekstra bir şey yapmanıza bile gerek yok. Bu noktada farkı yaratan şey, ne kadar hızlı patch aldığınız değil, ne kadar hızlı haberdar olduğunuz. İşte burada TRNOG gibi toplulukların değeri ortaya çıkıyor. WhatsApp, anlık paylaşımlar ve operatörler arası iletişim sayesinde, açıklar duyuruldu, etki alanı hızla anlaşıldı, mitigation ve patch süreçleri başlatıldı Tek başına hiçbir şirket bu hıza ulaşamaz. Bugün bir kez daha gördük ki: “Aynı sektörde rekabet ediyor olabiliriz ama aynı tehditlere karşı birlikte savunma yapıyoruz.” Sisteminizi güncelleyin, kernel’ınızı kontrol edin, access modellerinizi gözden geçirin. Ama en önemlisi! Topluluğun içinde olun.
