OpenAI just made the most underrated AI acquisition of 2026.
On June 11, it quietly acquired Ona (formerly Gitpod), a German cloud dev startup with ~80 people. No price disclosed.
This isn't a tiny tech bolt-on. This is Codex's graduation ceremony — from coding assistant to persistent agent platform.

48時間前に、Anthropic が一番おいしい客を自分から手放したんだよね。規制が厳しい銀行や行政向けに、最強モデルだけ「データを30日預かる」を必須にして、その境界を越えられない客を競合側へ押し出してた。
で、その48時間後。今度は OpenAI が、まさにその客を取りに動いた。
買ったのは Ona（旧 Gitpod）。顧客が自分の AWS や Google Cloud の中で AI エージェントを動かせる会社で、開発者200万人が使ってる。コードもデータも自社の外に出さずに、Codex を社内で走らせられる。金融・医療・政府みたいに「データを外に出せない」が絶対条件の業界を、OpenAI が正面から取りにいったってこと。
Codex はいま週500万人が使ってて、年初から 400%。Ona 側も「規制産業のエージェント利用が年初から13倍に増えた」と言ってて、客に米国最古の銀行・欧州最大級の製薬・アジア最大級の政府系ファンドが並んでる。つまり両社とも、賢さの競争はもう片方の話で、本当の戦場は「誰のクラウドで、どの法域で、誰のデータで動かすか」に移ってる。
同じ「安全」「データ主権」という言葉が、片方では客を手放すレバーになり、もう片方では客を取り込むレバーになる。モデルの強さじゃなく、客のクラウドの中に誰が先に陣地を作れるか。AI の力の在りかが、モデルの重みから、それを取り囲む実行環境のほうへ降りてきてる。

OpenAIが2026年6月、クラウド開発環境企業Ona（旧Gitpod）を買収したと報じられた。
狙いはCodexエージェントを企業のVPC内に統合するための実行基盤の獲得。
「顧客管理実行モデル」により、OpenAIが提供するエージェント（頭脳）と顧客VPC内のサンドボックス（実行環境）を分離し、Dev ContainersとAGENTS.mdという業界標準仕様を採用する。
💡 なぜ重要か
人間向けのクラウド開発環境としては不振だったGitpodが、エージェントの実行基盤として急転直下で価値化した点が興味深い。
AI競争の主戦場が「モデル性能」から「エージェント実行環境の安全性・再現性・監査証跡」へ移りつつあることを示す象徴的なM&Aで、コーディングエージェントを使う企業は戦略の見直しを迫られる。
