Looking back at the journey we started 15 years ago as part of the original design team, it is incredibly humbling to see how our vision for P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) has transformed from a single, disruptive idea in Brooklyn into a global movement. Today, seeing the model replicated across 16 states and 28 countries is a testament to what is possible when you refuse to accept the status quo in public education.
#PTECH #WeArePTECH
My incredible leadership team—Assistant Principal Brian Lewis, Assistant Principal Duane Williamson, Assistant Principal Harold Israel, and Assistant Principal Will Ehrenfeld—I am reminded that systems change requires dedicated, boots-on-the-ground leadership.
Here is an analysis and synthesis of where we stand today, reflecting on our 15-year journey:
1. Sustained Academic Excellence & Local Leadership
The latest data from the Public School Review for the 2025-2026 school year underscores that our model doesn't just work—it excels. Based on combined math and reading proficiency test score rankings, P-TECH has secured institutional excellence across multiple levels:
#1 Vocational Public School in New York
#1 Public School in Crown Heights, Brooklyn
#1 School in NYC Geographic District 17
2. A Historical Legacy of Partnership: 12 Consecutive Commencements
A core pillar of our success has always been our strong historical partnership with the City Tech, CUNY.
3. Scaling the Blueprint Globally
What began as an intentional partnership between the New York City Department of Education NYC Public Schools, City Tech, and IBM has expanded into a global blueprint for educational equity.
The Global Footprint: With adoption across 16 states and 28 countries, the P-TECH framework has proven to be adaptable across diverse geographic, economic, and cultural landscapes.
The Core Philosophy: By blending high school, college courses, and targeted mentorship/internships, we have successfully disrupted the traditional timelines of achievement, proving that young people are entirely capable of handling rigorous college-level material when provided with the right scaffolding and support.
Fifteen years in, our mission remains exactly what it was on day one: to democratize access to the tech economy and higher education. The accolades and rankings are a wonderful validation for our staff and students, but the true reward is watching our graduates cross that City Tech stage year after year, fully equipped to step into high-wage, high-growth careers. We have proven that when you raise the bar and provide a clear pathway, our youth will always rise to meet it.
