Elder Abuse is goes beyond physical violence in our society; way beyond the cuts & bruises.
I can tell you the most dangerous forms of elder abuse leave no marks on the skin. They happen in a blood chemistry.
Some of them in elderly homes are maliciously overdosed with heavy sedatives and also restrained physically. They may be looking peaceful to those people outside, however they are experiencing serious nervous breakdown which makes them to practically be prisoners.
There are a lot of times I've seen elderly ones whose samples were brought in from elderly homes with their Sodium and BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) way above the roof and this is a massive red flag. This is pointer that the elderly ones are highly dehydrated for a long time and their blood is getting thick like sludge and their kidneys are failing.
They are not given food and this makes the Albumin level in their blood to drop. They get to lose weight so much that their body starts breaking down to keep the heart beating.
From Lagos to London, protecting our elders is the ultimate measure of our humanity.
When visiting a care home or relative, don't just look for bruises. Look for alertness, hydration, and weight. Demand accountability. Be their voice.
