#PressStatement Police fatally shot Ibrahim Ramadhan in Pumwani, Kamkunji, yesterday. When residents took to the streets this morning to protest his killing, officers opened fire again, resulting in two more deaths. One of the victims, Dennis Muthui, is at the Nairobi Funeral Home, while the whereabouts of the third body remain unknown after police took it away. During the protests, police injured eight people, some sustaining gunshot wounds. Six are currently receiving treatment at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. Another victim, Trevis Masiva, has been admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital. One person has since been discharged from Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. We demand an immediate end to the use of lethal force by police. The right to protest must be upheld. We also demand that IPOA launch an investigation into the officers responsible for these shootings and ensure those found guilty face justice. #PressStatement By 4 pm today, police deployed in Nanyuki shot and killed one protester. Locals hit the streets demanding transparency about the US-backed Ebola facility and solid guarantees for the protection of the public health. That brings the death toll linked to this facility and due to police fire to three. Last week, police extrajudicially killed two protesters. An autopsy showed one was shot straight in the chest, a single bullet causing massive bleeding. Today, police shot the third victim in the head. No accident there. Police act with open impunity, following orders from their command and the regime that has made it clear that our lives mean nothing to them. IPOA must move fast. The officers responsible must be held criminally liable for these killings. So should their command. No cover-ups.

#PressStatement Hooded police officers deployed in Nanyuki, Laikipia, fired live bullets and arbitrarily arrested 19 protesters as of 11 am today. Residents took to the streets, demanding that William Ruto’s regime disclose agreements, negotiations, safety checks, approvals, and operational protocols related to a U.S.-linked Ebola facility that it said will be established in the county. Protesters also called for assurances regarding public health safety. KHRC has verified reports and reviewed videos showing police moving through the area on motorbikes and in white Land Cruisers and Subarus with removed or concealed license plates, as officers attacked protesters and journalists. The conduct of police contravenes the law. KHRC demands that police respect the right to protest, provide security for protesters, unconditionally release all those detained, and ensure that they are clearly identifiable. KHRC continues to monitor, document, and respond to reported abuses, with the aim of holding police officers and their commanders accountable for violations.
