Aðalatriðið í "söluræðu" ESB-sinna er að vextir muni lækka á Íslandi ef Ísland gerist aðildarríki ESB. Ein helsta ástæða hárra vaxta á hérlendis er virðisrýrnun krónunnar. Þessa rýrnun má rekja til viðvarandi hallareksturs og skuldasöfnunar ríkissjóðs, sem stafar af því að við höfum verið óheppin með stjórnmálamenn sem hafa komist upp með að moka peningum í botnlausa pytti, m.a. í viðleitni til að kaupa sér vinsældir frá sama fólki (græskulausum kjósendum) sem situr uppi með að fjármagna spillinguna, óráðdeildina, vopnakaupin o.fl. með stöðugt hærri skattgreiðslum í skiptum fyrir stöðugt lélegri opinbera þjónustu. Vandi hins venjulega Íslendings er að hann sér ekki heildarmyndina, heldur aðeins þann hluta vandamálsins sem birtist í háum vöxtum. Ástæðan fyrir þessu sjónleysi er vissulega dagleg ráðgáta, en bráðabirgðaskýring mín á henni er sú að ríkisstjórnin, sem eyðir peningunum okkar, notar um 6000 milljónir króna til að fjármagna Ríkisútvarp sem notað er til að stýra umfjöllun um það hvers vegna ríkissjóður "þarf" að eyða peningunum eins og gert er. Á meðan halda má athygli fólks fjarri rót vandans, þá andmæla enn of fáir. Svarið við ábyrgðarlausri meðferð á skattpeningum almennings og viðvarandi hallarekstri er ekki að ganga í ríkjasamband sem stýrt er af ólýðræðislegum "kommissörum" í Brussel. Nei, svarið er að krefjast meiri lýðræðislegrar ábyrgðar, meira gagnsæis hér heima, meiri ráðdeildar, minni spillingar, færri pólitískra gæluverkefna, minni ríkisafskipta, meiri niðurskurðar hjá íslenska ríkinu og lægri skatta. Ef við getum verið sammála um að íslenska ríkið sé illa rekið, þá eigum við að taka á þeim vanda sjálf, en ekki að leita grenjandi á náðir enn stærra skrifstofubákns handan úthafsins sem sjálft er illa rekið, ábyrgðarlaust og ólýðræðislegt. Ef þakið á húsinu okkar lekur er engin lausn í því fólgin að sprengja undan því grunninn.

Some background: I've been interested in and studying generative art since the early 90's. I wrote my graduation paper on the topic. I'm a voracious sci-fi reader and love computer science history. I know how far back AI generative software dev goes. I immediately got involved in AI generative software for image and animation when DeepDream dropped. I jumped in as soon as I could, playing with Disco Diffusion, PYTTI, Artbreeder, Wombo, etc. I was invited to join Midjourney beta. I did. I was there at the beginning and through 5 versions. I'm an experienced ComfyUI user. I am not a starving diner, refusing to try a dish. I'm an extremely experienced AI generative software user, and it's through years of involvement that I've reached the point where I'm at now. I value the personal challenge of trying and failing and succeeding in doing the work more than having a program output something for me. I'm not a "luddite" - I love computers still. I'm still fascinated by the underlying technology and I understand it. What soured me? Besides my desire to challenge myself? The gross swamp of abuse and exploitation that this entire technology is drowning in. I regret that it's poisoned like this.

And not all the people pushing back on AI generative software are dorks jumping on a bandwagon without understanding or trying the tech (as the AI boosters love to claim). I'm not a booster. I've been a fan and a student of computer image generation since the early 80's - and automated and algorithmic systems, with human guidance and without since the early 90's. I was super excited as we slid into the mid 10's and DeepDream came on the scene. Really excited. I had, by that point, been following the tech for decades. I did a ton of stuff with early systems, dreamy little infinite zoom pixel art animations. Abstract bloobers that might look like something if you squint just right. I loved Disco Diffusion. Loved it. I can't even remember all the different programs I was playing with. There was an online GAN with sliders that was fun. I had fun with PYTTI. It was doing things I've never seen before. That got me an invite into Midjourney Beta where one of the first convos I had with the devs was about the how and why and most specifically the where was the art they used to make it coming from. They were cagey. Short of it. I think it's amazing tech. I loved the dreamy broken infinity of it. It was like mining a 1000 dimensional space for interesting images and bringing them back share with friends. To be inspired. Then it all kind of broke down as more info came out. The people I met at that time weren't insulting and cruel towards artists. They were artists trying out a new tech. But then that broke down. The images weren't being used to scam and grift, they were too wild. Then that broke down. I'm sad and disappointed it's come to this point. What was inspiring and technologically fascinating degraded into people being jackholes and companies exploiting labor and it's all so gross. I still have friends doing fun and interesting things. Nightmarish fantastical things. I still support them and I'm frustrated I can't share what they do - since the broader environment has become so toxic.

I got an occasional celebrity in Disco v1 (Nov '21) but it was usually a partial face. Here's an Arnold that I post-processed with Pytti to give some texture. I just finely iterated the prompt to try to converge and ran lots of generations.
