I'm glad you asked. You probably won't read this or just ignore it, but it's not just for you.
The main action that Democrats needed to do for Black ppl was platform Black representation & civic participation, and we took care of alot of things ourselves.
Nationally, the RainbowPush coalition and the CBC helped usher in a continuous flow of Black candidates in state & local politics.
Locally, although we are still fixing the damage of years of the post-Jim Crow era systemic degradation of Black communities (drugs & guns pilfered in, educational opportunities & job access ushered out), many blocks & hoods like those here in Chicago are safer & cleaner than they were 10-30 years ago.
One reason--residents understood the power of local politics. In many Democratic-led cities, voters feel empowered to speak with their local officials to demand change & be part of solutions.
Example: in the early 90s, my parents helped organize in Auburn/Gresham & worked with our alderman to help eliminate all liquor stores & harmful businesses in the area. It improved our parks, schools, safety, and quality of life dramatically.
