There used to be a company called Remploy which provided work for those with disabilities. It was subsidised by the UK government, before these were phased out between 2008 and 2013 by the coalition government. Eventually sold to private equity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remplo….

I think we should reinstate Remploy. They were jobs for people with various disabilities. Enabled people to live with dignity and contribute to society in the same way any worker contributed.

Wasn't there something called Remploy which provided jobs for disabled people who might otherwise find difficulty in finding work? Guess which Government closed it down.

That's welfare dependency - a characteristic of capitalist societies. Socialist systems focus on empowering people to participate in the economy; a typical example of that is Remploy post 1945 here in the UK which The Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition closed in 2013.

They stripped Job Centres of any role as a “labour exchange” (I’m old enough to remember when that is what they were called) years ago. We need a service like that back? And a new Remploy for people with physical or mental disabilities? And …..

When are you going to fucking wake up...employers DO NOT WANT DISABLED WORKERS...remind us what happened to remploy which was setup to hire disabled folk...oh yeah, all it's funding was cut off. Stop demonising disabled people because employers don't want us.

After WW2, returning soldiers (and ex miners) made utility furniture for Remploy, a govt backed company that specifically provided work and housing for disabled Vets. A home building scheme that trains ex-military men and women, which results in them living in the home they built, while learning a trade, seems like a good idea today.

The closing of Remploy was IMHO one of the biggest acts of national vandalism underpinned by deliberate cruelty.
