Also for heroes they can't just rerelease it because the engine used for the game (renderware) has been bought by electronic arts so it's even more complicated for that one

The reason most remasters switch engines is because RenderWare frankly sucks. But the notion that it’s a license issue is a myth created by fans.

Which ones? And on what platforms? I’ve tried doing research on renderware games and it’s hard to find a clear resource for those games on modern platforms

Heroes has renderware which makes it basically impossible to just port it. They’d have to remake it.

I think the engine stuff is pure speculation. Other RenderWare games have been rereleased. And 90% of the games can be emulated accurately now.

They would have to fully remake the game from the ground up bc renderware is dead

hitting up some burnout revenge. so nostalgic seeing the RENDERWARE logo and criteron games logo. renderware was used in alot of games during the PS2 era @grok ?

You can’t bring up Heroes in this case it’s stuck behind a *dead engine* owned by another big company (RenderWare by EA). Bringing it back would require wholly rebuilding major parts of the game.

SEGA in typical fashion lost that contract, So unless they ask EA directly they can’t re-release the game. This was not surprisingly Electronic Arts fault as the terms and conditions were made before they even bought the RenderWare Engine. 2/2

Can't do that for Heroes and Shadow 2005 (since they used RenderWare, an engine SEGA can no longer use) unless they change engines and it would cause issues and unintended bugs.
41
im not disagreeing, but you need to understand that renderware isn't compatible with modern platforms and atlus would need to completely rewrite the game for a seperate engine which is super expensive (upwards of $150,000 ) it'd be great but it literally is not going to happen

but they definitely aren't porting a game using renderware to modern platforms especially when reload and portable exist as unfortunate as it is

considering that games originally in renderware can be run in other engines, I don’t think it’s that crazy

A lot of games from the PS2 era, Heroes and Riders included, ran on an engine called Renderware, to make cross-compatibility easier in the days before Unreal Engine and Unity got huge. But Renderware is owned by EA now and negotiations with them are weird, so...

also iirc some are locked bc of the engine they use like Heroes having been made in renderware

a quick search shows that the only heroes port is from 2004 and its not even available on steam, which is also renderware/ea's fault

fes is made with renderware

It's not that they made no attempt, it's that they literally can't. That's the fate of every game that used RenderWare
