30 years ago, yesterday, the Chicago Bulls won their 5th NBA Championship after defeating the Seattle SuperSonics 87-75 in Game 6 (and the series 4-2), in front of their home crowd. June 16th, 1996. Including postgame ceremony and celebrations. The Bulls won the first three games of the series, then lost the next two before winning this one. 35-year-old Dennis Rodman wasn't the Finals MVP, but he sure played like one, and this game was no exception. On his first season with the Bulls. He had 9 Points on 4/9 FG (44.4%), 1/3 FT, 19 Rebounds (11 Offensive Rebounds!!!), 5 Assists (ZERO turnovers), 3 Steals, 1 Block, and 4 PF in 38 minutes played. Michael Jordan, the Finals MVP, who was also having hard time throughout the NBA Finals, finished with 22 Points on 5/19 FG (26.3%), 1/3 from 3, 11/12 FT (91.7%), 9 Rebounds (3 Off. Rebs), 7 Assists (5 TOV), 2 Steals, and 3 PF in 43 minutes played. Scottie Pippen, who was really struggling offensively throughout the series (34.3% FG, 23.1% from 3, 70.8% FT), finished with 17 Points 7/17 FG (41.2%), 3/7 from 3 (42.9%), 8 Rebounds (2 Off. Rebs), 5 Assists (3 TOV), 4 Steals, and 4 PF in 42 minutes played. Ron Harper had 10 Points on 3/11 FG (27.3%), 2/5 from 3, 2/2 FT, 3 Rebounds, 2 Assists (2 TOV), 2 Steals, 1 Block, and 1 PF in 38 minutes played. The Australian Luc Longley was really important offensive in this game, and he had 12 Points on 5/6 FG (83.3%), 2/3 FT, 8 Rebounds (4 Off. Rebs), no assists, 1 Steal, 1 Block, 6 turnovers, and no fouls in 32 minutes played. Bench: Toni Kukoč had 10 Points on 4/11 FG (36.4%), 2/7 from 3 (28.6%), 3 Offensive Rebound, 1 Assist (2 TOV), 1 Steal, 1 Block, and no fouls in 22 minutes played. Steve Kerr, who finished the series 30.3% from the field, 18.2% from 3, 85.7% FT, had an efficient game, nearly identical to what he had in Game 3 (the Bulls won the first three games of the series), finishing with 7 Points on 3/4 FG (75.0%), 1/2 from 3, no free throws, 1 Offensive Rebound, 1 turnover, and 1 PF in 17 minutes played. Randy Brown finished with 1 Steal, 2 fouls, on 0/1 FG (0/1 from 3), in 5 minutes played. Bill Wenningtom (2 minutes played) and Jud Buechler (1 minute played) finished with zeros all across their stats. If you were to look at the stats of the Seattle SuperSonics players in this series, you wouldn't believe they even lost the series. All their main players did well in the series, despite coming from 7-game series vs. the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference Finals. 16 more turnovers (96 vs. 80 by the Bulls) in the series, and out-rebounded by 22 was harmful. Their defense was superb, and I don't think any other team in the NBA Finals made such a hard life on the Bulls (and MJ, Pippen) in the Finals like they did. A really suffocating defense led by George Karl, who isn't known to be a good coach when it comes to defense. Gary Payton finished with 19 Points on 7/10 FG (70.0%), 3/5 from 3 (60.0%), 2/2 FT, 4 Rebounds, 7 Assists (5 TOV), 2 Steals and 3 PF in 47 minutes played. Shawn Kemp had 18 Points on 8/17 FG (47.1%), 2/2 FT, 14 Rebounds (6 Off. Rebs), 3 Assists (4 TOV), and 6 fouls in 40 minutes played. He was fouled out with 4:39 minutes remaining in the 4th, after fouling Luc Longley, and received a standing ovation. He basically fouled twice in a short time interval. Detlef Schrempf had 23 Points on 9/17 FG (52.9%), 2/5 from 3, 3/4 FT, 5 Rebounds (1 Off. Reb), 2 Assists (5 TOV), 1 Steal, and 3 PF in 40 minutes played. Hersey Hawks had 4 Points on 2/6 FG (33.3%), 0/4 from 3, 4 Rebounds (1 Off. Reb), 2 Steals, 3 turnovers (no assists), and 4 PF in 41 minutes played. Frank Brickowski, who Rodman got into his head, messing up with him, finished with no points on 0/3 FG, 0/2 from 3, 1 Assist, 1 Block, and 1 PF in 14 minutes played. Bench: 35-year-old Sam Perkins, who already lost in the NBA Finals to the Bulls (in 1991, as a Laker), shot pretty well from 3 in the playoffs and the series (40.0% on 2.0 3PA), was horrific from 3. He finished the game with 7 Points on 3/14 FG (21.4%), 0/7 from 3, 1/2 FT, 6 Rebounds (3 Off. Rebs), 5 Assists (1 TOV), 1 Steal, and no fouls in 32 minutes played. From 40% from 3 in the series to 27.3%. He later went on to lose on another NBA Finals, in 2000, in a very minor role, as a 38-year-old Pacer (losing to the Lakers 4-2 too). Finishing his career with no rings. Nate McMillan had no points on 0/3 FG, 0/1 from 3, 1 defensive rebound, 1 Steal, 1 turnover, and no fouls in 10 minutes played. David Wingate had 4 Points on 2/2 FG, 1 Offensive Rebound, 1 turnover (no assists), and 3 fouls in 9 minutes played. He also went on to lose another NBA Finals, in 1999 as a Knicks (lost 4-1 to the Spurs) - he didn't play in the playoffs. Finishing his career with no rings. Vincent Askew finished scoreless on 0/1 FG and no other stats in 5 minutes played. The rookie Eric Snow had 1 assist in 1 minute played. Steve "The Chef" Scheffler finished with zeros stats in 1 minute played. Via: youtube.com/watch?v=--aNVFlM…

Scottie Scheffler on winning the Grand Slam "It's kind of a funny thing. It's like, yeah, if I win this tournament, that would be amazing, but I think then I show up the next week, and it's like, okay, now Scottie's won the grand slam, he's won all these golf tournaments. Now where do we go from here? So no matter what, I think as a player and as a professional athlete, you're never going to live up to the expectations of people. I think sometimes that's a little bit of the fallacy in our sport is like, if I win the U.S. Open, then I'm going to be satisfied. I've won all the tournaments, and my career is essentially over, and I've accomplished everything I could want to accomplish. But I think the goal posts are always just moved further and further."

Thought today was another really good Scottie Scheffler presser but particularly this answer when talking about dealing with the pressure of the career Grand Slam. "It's kind of a funny thing. "For me, would it be a dream to win the U.S. Open? Of course. But at the end of the day, like I -- the grand slam has never been a motivating factor for me. I always just wanted to be the best version of myself, and that got me this far."
