I bought a replacement needle threader and compared it to my old one. I now have a working example of what is wrong with the original. I was able to readjust the old one. Now I have two functioning threaders. I'm keeping the new one as backup.

Even now I still talk army slang without even thinking about it. You never lose it, it’s our own secret language, civvies are left clueless. And it really comes out when veterans meet up over a few beers...nobody understands us.
Out with the old, in with the new. I noticed there’s a lot of new military slang appearing on social media nowadays, of course times do change, armies change, but I’m wondering if the old slang words are still alive and kicking? For instance, howling, minging, gopping and barking, all words that relate to something that is in sh*t state like your uniform or body. ‘You need to have a shower mate, you’re minging!!’ And what about these new ones, such as Ally (someone cool), Threaders (Angry or fed up), Green time machine (sleeping bag). What do you think?
Do they still refer to newly Commissioned Officers, i.e. 2nd Lieutenants, fresh from Sandhurst, Ruperts and Rodneys? I think Ruperts and Rodneys came from Spike Milligan's books about the second world war.
I wonder if they still use the phrase ‘NATO STANDARD’ for the standard milk with two sugars brew? Everyone drank it like that back in the day. Or is it latte, mochas, and cappuccinos, nowadays??
