A gate man was found dead in his room in an estate. I was called to certify him.
He was a lonely man who had been working in the lodge for over a year. Within that period, he had never taken a break, and no one had ever visited him. He used a small touchlight phone, was always moody, but did his work diligently.
He was discovered by a tenant who was looking for him to pump water when their supply finished.
On getting there, I saw him propped up in a chair, partly covered. The room looked messy โ like he had been passing stool and vomiting before his demise. Unfortunately, he couldn't call for help.
Time of death was 12โ24 hours prior.
All efforts to reach anyone who knew him failed. He was deposited in the morgue by the police.
I keep wondering: what kind of life decisions put someone in such a state โ where he would die, no one would even notice, and no loved one could be contacted?
Life can be cruel.
