Legislative Assembly of Tonga Reaffirms Firm Commitment to the one-China Policy
At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Lord Vaea, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, led a parliamentary delegation on a visit to China from May 6 to 15.
On May 19, Legislative Assembly of Tonga issued a press release of the visit on its official website and social media, stating that the visit marked an important milestone in enhancing legislative cooperation between the two countries, deepening mutual understanding and trust, and injected new impetus into the growth of China-Tonga relations. It reaffirmed Legislative Assembly of Tonga’s continued support for the one-China Policy, recognizing the Chinese Government’s pursuit of national reunification and their firm opposition to any move by Taiwan towards independence, in alignment with Government of Tonga’s position and reiterated the importance of continuing diplomatic engagement between Tonga and China.
