Last September, during Workforce Development Month, Governor Henry McMaster, Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, and S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce Director William Floyd honored Michelin North America, Inc., with the Workforce Champion Award for strengthening the workforce pipeline by connecting students with career awareness, exploration, and employment opportunities.
As Executive Director Floyd travels throughout the state to thank and spotlight the 2025 Workforce Champion Award Nominees and Winners, Michelin North America marked our seventh stop on the tour, as Regional Workforce Advisor (RWA) Kaye Shaw nominated its Lexington facilities for:
🏆Constantly being a driver of economic development through their Michelin Technical Scholars program. This program offers opportunities for part-time work at Michelin offers tuition support while students work part‑time at Michelin, gaining real‑world technical skills and a direct pathway into high‑demand careers with the company.
🏆Providing Michelin Scholar students scholarships to earn degrees in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electronic Engineering Technology from Midlands Technical College. Upon completion of the degree and graduation, a Michelin Scholar will be eligible for entry-level employment with a competitive salary at Michelin.
🏆Offering a plethora of opportunities for employment and advancement, including a School to Work opportunity for high school seniors in the Midlands and surrounding areas, and countless educator field study programs that have assisted over 800 high school students since 2023!
