Hudson County- The Hudson County Board of Commissioners approved
the County of Hudson to apply for up to $1,000,000 in funds from the New
Jersey Department of Transportation 2026 Safe Streets and Roads Grant
Program.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads
Grant Program provides funds to counties to improve the safety and
accessibility of roadways for the traveling drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, or
public transit riders. This will encourage roadway users to walk to transit
station and facilitate the implementation of projects and activities that will
improve safety. They will focus on bike network planning, turn analyses,
and a public awareness campaign.
According to NJDOT, “walking is the most environmentally friendly and
low-cost way to get people to and from public transportation. When given
sidewalks or traffic calmed streets to walk along, safe and convenient ways
to cross streets, and a comfortable transportation environment, most people
are willing to walk farther to reach public transportation.”
Board Chairman Anthony Romano and the Hudson County Board of
Commissioners are providing the necessary resources to Hudson County
municipalities for them to provide a safer environment on roadways and
sidewalks for residents.
