A new bill introduced by New Jersey state Senator
@NJSenTimberlake would establish a uniform rent control framework for the state, limiting how much landlords can raise rents.
According to the bill, landlords would be prohibited from increasing rents for existing tenants by more than 2% in a single year or by more than 4% over a five-year period.
For vacant units rented to new tenants, rent increases would be capped at 10% above the rent charged during the previous lease term.
