This gets to the heart and soul of loss. Well shown @JodyKeisner
For a presentation on AI, my student brought in two passages of text: one from my book (surprise!) and an AI rewrite. She asked the class which passage was better at illustrating the emotional texture of the scene. The majority chose the AI rewrite. It all felt gross.

Are we crossing the Turing Test Threshold? *Feels* like AI chatbot 'intelligence' capabilities are human, at least to a real human. With "emotional" foibles. Mostly parroting & patterns, so not there. Yet? Spooky entanglement convos popping up all over axios.com/2023/02/16/bing-ar…

@MarinaWalkerG And more here, including "combative" responses that seem less 'what-word-likely-follows-another" style, than Bing's AI chatbot being outright offended stratechery.com/2023/from-bi…

Recently attended amazing @commonmag online craft class by author, journalist, Guggenheim Fellow @AnnaBadkhen. Inspiring note, paraphrased: 'When I sit down & start writing I want to do something to shift, to disturb, to illuminate, to bridge.' That's the higher goal & calling!

Thank you @pulitzercenter @MarinaWalkerG @kemsawyer for your support for this project. AI Accountability is essential in an era where artificial intelligence is increasingly everywhere.
Grantee @JoCavanaughSim1 reported that police agencies in South Florida misused AI facial recognition, disproportionately targeting Black people. The story for @SunSentinel led to changes in Florida's police use of this technology. Be part of the change. bit.ly/PulitzerCimpact

Thank you @pulitzercenter for your support for this police facial recognition analysis project. Much was discovered by scouring public records & interviewing protesters & others most affected on-the-ground. Insights can apply elsewhere @MarinaWalkerG @kemsawyer @SunSentinel

The report by grantee @JoCavanaughSim1 for @SunSentinel found that police agencies in South Florida widely misused AI facial recognition technology predominantly on Black people, at rates that exceed the region’s Black population and rates of arrest. pulitzercenter.org/stories/s…

Tech companies claims often outstrip realities, yet unproven digital 'solutions' are adopted widely, despite harms to real people. Here, amazing investigation by @ArijitDSen @dallasnews with support from @pulitzercenter & the AI Accountability Network @MarinaWalkerG @bboying1275
Social Sentinel, now Navigate360 Detect, says its AI helps prevent student suicides and school shootings. The software flagged a tweet where Robbie Robinson, then a student at @ASU, about buying a gun. He was arrested. No gun was ever found. šŸ“¹āœļø: @DKproduxion āœļø: @ArijitDSen
