It is not a small pragmatic change, it is a huge terrifying one and one which could place detailed information into the hands of the exact abusers it it trying to stop. Unfortunately, despite the claim in this article, the bill doesn’t contain any actual support for existing home educators at all, and shows no sign of improving access to exams. It introduces a duty of support on LAs - but only as they ‘think fit’. Exams are not mentioned.

🔴: Why aren't 🔵 supporting our bill? 🔵: Why aren't 🔴 supporting our bill? Home educators: We've been telling both 🔴 & 🔵 for DECADES about the issues in schools. Both allowed the problems to spiral while in government.

Labour are ignoring the real underlying causes for actual persistent absence namely persistent sickness, lack of SEND support, poverty & familial factors etc. Manipulating the general ignorance re home education is poor form & wholly unfair to the home ed community.

It's disingenuous that, while there are huge issues within the education system ( school buildings, teachers quitting, mental health crisis, insufficient spaces for children with SEND) politicians seem to think that putting children on a register will somehow make things right?

There is no evidence (and I mean NO evidence) to back up claims that home educated children are somehow a problem to be solved. Absenteeism has nothing to do with home education.
