Great @TorontoStar feature on #MaryWard CSS today. As a graduate from 30 years back I’ll vouch for the life lessons we took with us - becoming self starters and functioning in the real world. Some excellent staff then - and I’m sure still today. #TCDSBthestar.com/news/gta/inside-…
So let me get this straight - since your post comes without context or source - the candidate running for the @CPC_HQ nomination in #Willowdale is suggesting because there is a growing opioid crisis in Canada, the answer is to eliminate all harm reduction facilities?
Let’s be clear: Municipal property taxes are not designed to take the brunt of Canada’s international commitments on asylum seekers. The Feds need to assess all costs associated with these commitments and pick up the tab. Period. #TOpolithestar.com/politics/federal…
I will however also note that @PierrePoilievre ‘s take on this is “cut taxes” - which has got to make you wonder how serious he is about tackling the problems facing Canada’s largest city.
I fought with PF&R over tobogganing 5 years ago. #Willowdale signs were taken down. If the City wants to end a fundamental recreational activity, should be done in consultation with communities and a transparent policy posted - with every effort made to keep hills open. #TOpoli
Credit to @dmrider for being on this story from the start. Let’s hope the saga can now have the positive ending it deserves - with 59 people having a roof over their heads.
Ontario's planning appeal body rejects efforts to stop construction of modular supportive housing for people escaping homelessness on a Willowdale site. Coun. Lily Cheng was elected in Oct. 2022 vowing to halt or significantly change the 59-unit project, one of several across T.O
Thanks to all the City Councillors, City staff and community members who supported this project and worked hard to keep it from falling apart amidst adversity. Lives will be saved by creating this type of housing and countless more lives improved dramatically. #TOpoli
A safe and dignified place to call home:
An Ontario Land Tribunal decision was issued today dismissing the appeal of Toronto City Council’s decision to permit 60 new supportive affordable homes at 175 Cummer Avenue in #NorthYork.
Have to give kudos to @MayorOliviaChow and @fordnation for putting differences aside and announcing a working group to find a “new deal” for Toronto budget. With a $1.5 billion shortfall it’s critical to have all hands on deck. I’m hopeful Ottawa will follow suit. #topoli
Thanks @GraphicMatt for profiling what continues to be an important issue for our community and our city. One edit - during consultation, leadership of many of #Willowdale neighbourhood associations were supportive of this project and should not be painted with one brush.
My @TorontoStar column: They were supposed to be homes. Instead, these modular units are still waiting for assembly in a storage unit—at a cost of $77K a month.
Toronto’s next mayor needs to be ready to push back against those who obstruct new housing.

This is the missing part of Toronto’s affordable housing debate. #TOpoli
The ‘15-minute city’ idea is key to solving Canada’s housing crisis theglobeandmail.com/business…
Thanks to @anabailaoto for joining a packed John McKenzie House in #Willowdale for Coffee & Politics today. She was thoughtful and passionate in addressing the future of Toronto. Ana clearly offers the leadership our city needs. #topoli#toelxn23
First #March25 parade on the #Danforth this afternoon celebrating Greek independence. Proud of my guys celebrating their heritage and marching proudly with the community.
For those wondering about the #topoli mayoral race, this from @thekeenanwire
Doesn’t factor in are the new strong mayor powers that could land in the lap of a winner with 20% of the vote in a low turnout by election.
Stakes are enormous.

Missing from this piece - that @fordnation has stripped cities’ ability to collect funds to provide infrastructure for this growth. A plan to deal with that gap is something I hope to hear about from mayoral hopefuls. #topolithestar.com/business/2023/03…
Blown away by 1,500 delegates in Hamilton for #OLPAGM. Great energy in the room adopting a 1-member-1-vote system for the coming @OntLiberal Leadership campaign. A lot to build on here. Looking forward to rolling up my sleeves.
