PropAMMs are basically on-chain HFT firms.
Every LP has a better shot at making more money from being an LP in an HFT firm than in an AMM pool.
If your plan is to donate your money to charity(arbitrageurs) and not make more money than you put in, then AMM pools are perfect.
The idea that theyโre picked off or arbed into oblivion stems from the thinking that AMM LPs are competing with HFT firms.
And given the amount of resources that go into HFT market making strategies and the non-existent effort of AMM LPs, if it were anything other than that it would be gross incompetence on the part of the HFT firms.
But the reality is that AMM LPs are only competing against one thing, and one thing only:
Divergence Loss.
As long as AMM LPs beat divergence loss, they run highly profitable, passive (read ZERO-effort) trading strategies.
No low latency tooling. No proprietary models. No recurring execution risk.
Just LP and chill.

Thatโs how many of them work but it doesnโt have to be that way. MMs can still make markets without intent to handle price discovery and de-emphasize the signal strength of an external price feed, itโs just different math. But that choice is orthogonal to what propAMMs represent.
