Make a difference for your local community by inspiring high school students with science!
Registration is now *OPEN* for teachers and scientists to sign up for the annual Michigan DNA Day. 🧬
Get involved in @MIDNADay 2022 by visiting our website midnaday.com/get-involved/
Our 4th alumni network event is WEDNESDAY 4/21! Join former MSW member & @MIDNADay founder, Dr. Christina Vallianatos, to learn about her path from grad school to outreach career as the Genomics Educator for the Jackson Laboratory. Link on events page: misciwriters.com/events/
Our interactive modules cover a spectrum of cool science topics including Forensics, Genomics and Inheritance, Pharmacogenetics, Microbiology and Immunology, and Evolutionary Biology (a new addition)! More information can be found on our website at midnaday.com.
There is still time to support us! Double your impact! First time UM donors who give $50 or mor will receive a match of $50. Current student donors who give $25 or more will receive a match of $25. Donations can be made at givingblueday.org/o/universi….
Today is the big day! Consider supporting us in our mission to improve genetics literacy and spark interest in scientific careers by connecting scientists and classrooms across the state of Michigan. Donations can be made at givingblueday.org/o/universi….
It’s just five days away before the Michigan Giving Blueday fundraising campaign ends! Your donations will help us impact the future of science! Donate at givingblueday.org/o/universi…. Learn more about our outreach at midnaday.com

Listen to our latest career talk with Dr. Christina Vallianatos, a Genomics Educator at the Jackson Laboratory. Christina turned her love for science and passion for outreach into a full-time career! We hope you enjoy learning more about her career path! ow.ly/7dYZ50DsmTG
UPDATE: The release of our next career panel discussion with Christina Vallianatos, PhD is POSTPONED! Why? Because we want to hear what questions YOU have about building a career in science! Click the link to submit your questions anonymously! ow.ly/WdCm50DfFc2
Michigan DNA Day is excited to release the first career panel of our new career webinar series! In this month's panel we learn about the Genetic Counseling career path. Take a look and share with your students!

On a different note, my colleagues and I at @JAX_Education have a Career Chat interview series to learn about STEM jobs youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…
Also @MIDNADay is starting a similar series and will soon have vids to share!
This month marked Rosalind Franklin's 100th birthday! We celebrate her work and influence in science. Thanks to her Photo 51, we now have a better understanding of DNA's molecular structure. #fbf
Some women can see up to 100 million shades of color, a color vision trait called tetrachromacy, linked to the X chromosome. #genomefacts#Xchromosomeweek
Day 7: Decoding DNA
How do genes work? Learn how our DNA sequence encodes proteins by decoding DNA on your own! Do you know how many genes are in the human genome? Find out with today's activity!

Day 6: Comparing traits
Today you will learn about physical characteristics referred to as "traits", that you may share with those in your family or that may be unique to you!

Day 5: DNA extraction from fruits
Yes, fruit share the same genetic blueprint as humans, and you will learn how to extract and observe DNA from your choice of fruit using common household supplies, such as dish soap and salt!

Day 4: Learn the science of viruses
Not all genomes are made of DNA! Choose an activity and explore what makes up a virus and learn how RNA viruses (like coronavirus!) can live on household surfaces and assemble more copies of their RNA genome.
