How’s your summer going? We’ll go first… ☀️ Campus has felt a little quieter lately with students away for the summer, but it’s still been an exciting season at Murrow College! Students have traveled to the Columbia River Gorge for the Rural Reporting Plunge, while others explored the world on a study abroad trip to Greece. Another group of students headed to Seattle and Portland to get an inside look at communication industries in those cities. Our faculty are preparing to attend conferences and share their expertise, and our staff are busy getting everything ready for an exciting fall semester ahead. Now it’s your turn—what have you been up to this summer? 👇

Kudos to Michelle for such a thoughtful and engaging essay on participation and equity! Inspired by "Grading for Equity" and great conversations from the Teaching Academy Book Club, she’s rethinking what participation can look like, focusing less on attendance and more on student thinking and engagement. Her approach opens up more inclusive ways for students to take part, especially in large classes. Read more: ow.ly/414f50ZagGs

Murrow students are telling global stories that matter. Through the Murrow College's Backpack Journalism program, students traveled to Vietnam to report on the growing demand for Washington apples, capturing not just the economics, but the cultural connections behind the story. We’re proud to see their work published in The Spokesman-Review, highlighting both their reporting and photography skills. Congratulations to our talented student journalists and photographers for bringing these stories to life. 🔗 Read their work: • ow.ly/6WqS50Z6hMfow.ly/f01n50Z6hMg

In a recent KUOW segment, Murrow Professor Benjamin Shors, director of the Murrow News Fellowship at Washington State University, shares how the program is making an impact by placing 16 early-career journalists in underserved communities across the state. Even more exciting: the program has set an ambitious goal of placing a fellow in all 39 counties in Washington, ensuring that every community has access to trusted local reporting. 🎧 Listen to the full story from @KUOW and learn how Murrow Fellows are helping close the news gap across Washington. murrow.wsu.edu/news/2026/05/…
