Don’t tell Jony Ive
Never forget when MythBusters covered a Ford Taurus in modelling clay and scooped out 1,082 dimples to see if the aerodynamics of golf ball dimples could scale to a car. It worked: a dimpled Taurus was more fuel efficient than the standard one (to make sure the cars weighed the same, the team put the same amount of clay in the trunk of the car on the non-dimpled tests). Across ~300 episodes, the Golf Dimple Car was one of their most surprising results. Just an absolute got damn classic and probably the most visually absurd of their experiments.

Only 66 years from first flight to landing on the Moon in 1969. Here we are, 76 years later cannot yet return to the Moon. We should have been on Mars by now.

"reliably" is working pretty hard here. BDR is a great entry to sales in tech, but keep in mind... OTE starts at $50k-$60k Most don't make it to an AE role (up or out...) $250k OTE is for an enterprise AE, most BDR-->AE jumps are great comp increases 1/n

If you’re not technical, the best first job is SDR at a well run startup. I can’t think of another way to reliably get to $250k/year by your mid twenties.

The net? I'm sure there are cases where a mid-20s AE can pull in $250k or more (I've certainly seen it), but it is a rare exception. Don't get me wrong, 2 of my 3 kids started their career as BDRs and they are killing it, I recommend it highly but... 3/n

Don't buy that 5-Series or Model S quite yet... Because "reliably" doesn't seem to mean likely...and you shouldn't take that to the bank... (what do I know, I'm just an old guy who has done this for more than 35 years, but I'm probably senile...) 4/fin

Dear @msexcel UX team: For the love of God, please fix the world's most annoying UI issue that has been in your product since the 1990s. When I try to click to zoom a worksheet in a multi-tab workbook, I invariably hit the "add tab plus sign" instead of the "zoom view plus sign". And since it doesn't zoom my screen, I hit it 4 or five times before I realize I am hitting the wrong plus sign that is a few millimeters away, resulting in several new tabs that have to be individually deleted. For some reason, the noise I make as I sweep accumulated moss from my porch roof sounds exactly like “Siri, play songs by Mandy Patinkin“ - AI scientists: your job is done here

Alright, this morning we revealed our new brand and website. But I have one more quick thing to share here about our first EVENT. Like a real, in-person event. The thing people have been asking us to do for two years now. Tickets will be on sale next week, but I wanted to give you a little teaser today. 1. The event will be called Drive 2. It will be in Burlington, Vermont - September 11 and 12 3. We're only selling 150 tickets, this will be small 4. We'll have Ben & Jerry's 5. We'll have a dinner and after party in downtown Burlington 6. The focus of the event is two days to help you get smarter about B2B marketing 7. OK fine I'll share a bunch of the speakers now; but we'll have some great ones that are in the weeds doing the work right now and can leave you with tactical ideas you can bring back to your company for the rest of the year, including: Peter Mahoney, Lashay Lewis, Tara Robertson, Kyle Coleman, Devin Reed, Pranav Piyush, Natalie Marcotullio and more I didn't tell the team I was going to share all of this today since tickets aren't available yet, but I'm feeling the buzz from the launch this morning and wanted to share this. If you want to be the first to know about the event next week when tickets go on sale, get on the waiting list. Go to exitfive.com/event Put your name on the waiting list now so you can buy one of the first tickets next week.

I respect the hustle of sales professionals. In my job, I get a lot of solicitations from sales people. While it is impossible for me to respond to everyone personally, I do use this simple text expander hack to compose a polite reply to many of those requests. If you have sent me a solicitation in the past, this response may look familiar. Have a great day, and keep up the good work. We all rely on you to grow our businesses.

Thoughtful article by @LilaMacLellan in @FortuneMagazine about the role of the CMO and their opportunity to grow into the COO and CEO role. I had the opportunity to speak with Lila about the article and you will probably recognize some of the common themes I have been writing for the past several years from this brief excerpt. Check out the full article at the link (💰paywall) ===== Looking ahead, Mahoney predicts that marketers who aspire to maintain a seat within the C-suite no matter the title will need to proactively round out and deepen their financial skills while also becoming experts on once-distant concerns like data privacy and cybersecurity. “There’s going to be a great sorting algorithm,” says Mahoney. Marketers locked in an outmoded mindset, he says, “may not even be able to maintain their CMO job, let alone make it to the next rung, to COO.” ===== fortune.com/2024/04/01/chief…
