This life-sized bronze sculpture reflects the spirit of sailors past, present and future, and honors Norfolk's deep connection to the @USNavy and our pride as home to the world's largest naval station. The City of Norfolk proudly hosted its inaugural Women Veterans Breakfast and Pinning Ceremony today at @TheSloverVA. Each year on this date, we honor the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act—landmark legislation that opened the door for women to serve permanently in our nation’s armed forces. Our keynote speaker, Adm. (ret.) Lisa Franchetti, former 33rd Chief of Naval Operations, delivered an inspiring message. She reflected on the pivotal moment that led her to the @USNavy, the service and sacrifice of women across generations, the progress that has expanded opportunities once denied to women and the power of strong support networks.

Beyond the program, the morning was filled with meaningful fellowship and connection. Women veterans from across the region came together to share stories, support one another and build new networks rooted in service, pride and community. It was a wonderful and uplifting event—one that truly celebrated women, their service to our country and the bonds that continue to unite those who have worn the uniform.

Did you know the stormwater system is separate from the sewer system? Water in storm drains dumps directly into our streams, lakes and waterways untreated. That's why ANY substance that's not rain isn't allowed to flow into our stormwater drains. This includes: 🧼 "Biodegradable" Soap 💦 Pool Water (Salt and Chlorine) 💧 Pressure Washing Runoff 💩 Pet Waste Learn how you can prevent pollution in our neighborhoods and waterways and report illicit discharge by visiting norfolk.gov/pollutionprevent… and remember... Only Rain Down The Storm Drain!

The Norfolk Fitness & Wellness Center is progressing! Since the last update, we can now see the outdoor sitting and play areas, surrounded by open field. Tennis and pickleball courts will be installed just east of the play areas. Looking north you can see the gymnasium and natatorium coming together, complete with lazy river and the pool — before the roof is installed. Towards the south, we can view the roof of the brand new library and the parking beyond it. Which of these are you most excited about?
