🥳 We're still buzzing from the International Day of Play last Thursday!
Our team attended celebrations across Scotland, and from imaginary cafés, to hopscotch games, to gigantic sandpits, we saw once again how much play really means to children of all ages.
Thank you to everyone who took part in celebrating the power of play!
If your school registered to participate, don't forget to complete our evaluation survey by 23 June to be entered into the £100 prize draw to contribute towards play resources for your school!
📸: Our OPAL lead, Laura, said, "Even the heavy downpours didn’t dampen spirits at the parent Stay and Play in Forfar on Thursday! The rain brought a fun dynamic to this International Day of Play" 🌧
Happy #InternationalDayofPlay!
We hope you have brilliant plans, and we can’t wait to see what you get up to! Tag us in your celebrations or email photos you have permission to share to us at info@playscotland.org
🎈 Happy playing! 🤸♀️
Around the world, opportunities for outdoor play are disappearing. So Greg Goya and UNICEF turned streets into playgrounds. We created four games across cities, transforming ordinary places into moments of joy.
Play is everywhere. This #InternationalDayOfPlay, share where you find it.

🥳Join us on 5th August to celebrate Playday!
This year we're highlighting the importance of creating opportunities for children to play *wherever* they are.
Play happens 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚, and we're calling for children to have access to playful moments, everyday adventures, opportunities to play in their neighbourhood, and inclusive and welcoming environments.
This week is #MentalHealthAwareness week, and there's no better time than now to share the impact play can have on children's mental health. Play encourages children to:
🤔 Learn about themselves and how to be in the world
👩🏻🤝🧑🏾 Build strong relationships
🗣 Communicate thoughts and feelings
💡 Learn about resilience and problem-solving

11-16 May is Scottish Childminding Week! Among the many ways childminders provide vital support, they also play a crucial role in fostering play-based learning, enabling the child's right to play. A well-designed play environment supports children’s:

🗣 Social Skills
🤸♀️ Physical Wellbeing
♥ Emotional Growth
#CheerForChildminding this week, and let's raise awareness for the work they do in supporting the health and wellbeing of children 🎉
How are you planning on incorporating the #InternationalDayofPlay into your school day this June?
Two ways are to make extra time for play at lunch, or play a Stay & Play after school.

Our Learning and Development Officer and OPAL Mentor, Alex, is running the London Marathon later this month! Alex is running in support of @starlight_UK, to help bring the healing power of play to children in healthcare settings.
We are so proud of Alex's incredible effort in support of a vital cause. We would be so appreciative of any donations you'd like to make below! "Play isn’t 'just' fun. In hospitals, it’s therapeutic." Read Alex's blog and donate here: playscotland.org/play-in-hea…
