๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Some conversations just need to happen. Think back to primary school. Who was usually the class monitor? Who was the assistant? Were boys and girls treated the same when it came to leadership, responsibility, or even punishment? These may seem like small things, but do they shape how we think about women and men later in life? Tonight on the very first episode of the #RestlessConversations Podcast, @Lord_Mutuzo joins us for a candid conversation about women's rights in Uganda, not as they appear in laws and policies, but as they are experienced in everyday life. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Expect honest stories, uncomfortable questions, and reflections that might make you see things a little differently. ๐Ÿ“บ Episode 1 drops tonight , 8PM EAT: youtu.be/QY9P3tXyYNA @GabrielIguma @edmundayesigwa #RestlessConversations #WomensRights #IWD2026

While attending the Annual National Stakeholders' Breakfast Dialogue under the Youth Inclusion, Governance and Accountability (#YIGAProject) organised by @Restless_Uganda, our Secretary, @Turya_osborn encouraged young people to actively pursue opportunities created through government programmes and policy reforms. He noted that many young people remain unaware of existing provisions that support youth participation in local government procurement and emphasised the need for increased awareness and engagement to enable youth to benefit from these opportunities. The dialogue brought together representatives from civil society and youth leaders from Karamoja and West Nile under the theme:"Youth Unemployment: A Perspective on Government Wealth Creation Initiatives and Inclusive Governance for Sustainable Development." @Moglsd_UG

Thank you @Restless_Uganda for the opportunity.
@dr_mutebi, a Youth Sounding Board member with @DKinUganda questioned the extent to which national wealth creation investments are translating into meaningful opportunities for young people. He argued that despite significant government spending on wealth creation programmes, youth remain underrepresented among beneficiaries. He further highlighted the rising costs of production in emerging sectors such as digital content creation and called for increased investment in digital infrastructure and innovation initiatives led by institutions such as @UCC_Official and @NITAUganda1 to better support youth participation in the digital economy. @Mglsd_UG #YIGAProject

"Unemployment is a consistent issue in our country. The government boasts of various measures in place, and that itself signals the disconnect."โ€” Opening remarks of our Hub Director, @GabrielIguma. Today, together with our partners @SensitiseUg, @FarajaAfricaFdn, @Kayese256, and @IMChallengeug under the Programme on Accountability, Civic Engagement and Rights (#PACER), we hosted the Annual National Stakeholders' Breakfast Dialogue under the Youth Inclusion, Governance and Accountability (#YIGAProject). The dialogue brought together government representatives including @Mglsd_UG , civil society actors, and youth leaders from Karamoja and West Nile. The theme: : โ€œYouth Unemployment: A Perspective Of Government Wealth Creation Initiatives And Inclusive Governance For Sustainable Development.โ€ Youth unemployment is not a new problem. The programmes exist, but young people aren't feeling them. That gap between policy and lived reality is exactly what today was designed to address. This work is made possible with the generous support of the Embassies of @DKinUganda, @SwedeninUG, @NLinUganda, and @IrlEmbUganda. @UgGrowproject
Government wealth creation programs exist. Youth unemployment persists. Today we stop dancing around that contradiction and start asking why. @Restless_Uganda @FarajaAfricaFdn @IMChallengeug @Moglsd_UG @mondokyateka

@Ogwang_OO, a member of the Youth Advisory Committee at the Embassy of @NLinUganda, called for greater involvement of government stakeholders in youth policy discussions. He questioned the effectiveness of current implementation approaches for programmes such as the Parish Development Model - @PDMSecretariat , highlighting gaps in administrator training and monitoring. He urged comparative learning from successful development partners and recommended measuring success based on sustainable enterprises and long-term impact rather than solely on the number of beneficiaries reached. #YIGAProject

Closing remarks by @GabrielIguma Hub Director, Restless Development Uganda. "PDM risks becoming an alcohol-drinking fund if implementation failures are not addressed." He added that candid conversations of that nature are not optional, they are necessary for meaningful reform. His call to action: ๐Ÿ”ดmore youth participation in decision-making ๐Ÿ”ดstronger collaboration between women-led and youth-led organizations; ๐Ÿ”ดand continued civic engagement- it shouldn't stop after the engagement ends. #YIGAProject
