The callers are shocked. They think hedgehogs love slugs, which are plentiful. They don't. Slugs carry deadly lungworm. Hedgehogs eat beetles and caterpillars. There are none about now so healthy full grown hedgehogs hibernate. Those not able to reach that happy state will struggle on, desperately searching for something to eat, and eventually die of starvation or parasite invasion if they are not lucky enough to find a kind garden that provides food. A dish of dry kitten biscuits will make the difference between life and death. Please be that difference.
