If there's one thing about @RyanCox_5, it's that he's gonna do a sick trick play.

Top 10 Savannah Bananas Moments of the Year Written by Biko Skalla: Our creative team cooked up a top 10 list of Bananas moments from 2023 that is so stupendous it inspired me to write a brief article about them. This is that article: 10. Vinny’s 360 Tornado Catch: There are so many amazing aspects here. First off, Bill ā€œThe Spacemanā€ Lee is on the bump. Secondly, it’s against the Aussie Drop Bears. Plus, Stilts is playing first base. So right off the bat we’re cooking with Australian Timber Oil (not sure if you can do that but that’s just how incredible this set up is). Then there’s the actual play, which is the greatest trick play ever made in the first four years of our young sport. Come for the absurdity that is the ā€œTornado Catchā€ and stay for the last replay that has Bill walking off the mound with his hands raised in triumph, Stilts looking on with his insane mit, the beautiful play itself, and Vinny celebrating as only the Italian Stallion can. 9. Major League Walk-Offs: Shane Victorino’s patented ā€œThree Little Birdsā€ walk-up was still playing as he blasted the first pitch he saw in his Banana Ball career into left-center for a 7th inning walk-off in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas. One of the cooler things I’ve ever seen. Once again Sean Fluke is on the mound (good or bad that guy is a part of A LOT of legendary Banana Ball highlights) and this was a patented Hunter Pence at-bat. It was on the eleventh pitch that he peppered that ball through the right side of the infield to walk-off the 3rd inning in Sacramento, where he played parts of 3 seasons when he was on rehab assignments with the San Francisco Giants. You can’t make this stuff up. And speaking of just that, how about Johnny Damon notching a walk-off in his lone at-bat in Brockton, Massachusetts, less than an hour from Fenway Park. I swore I could feel Campanelli Stadium shaking from the roar of the crowd in the heart of Red Sox Nation. 8. Aladdin Walkup and Walk-Off: One of the most complex and well executed walkups on the tour and it just happened to come in the bottom of the 9th inning in a tied challenger game against the very formidable Trenton Thunder. Then Bill brought the boom with the shot to left-center for the cherry on top of a highlight more than worthy of its spot on this list. 7. Ryan Cox’s 100th Trick Play: There were only 4 trick plays made across the 29 Banana Ball games played before 2023. Coxy got his 100th trick play in the 63rd game of the 2023 tour. The Glove Magician would finish with 144 across the 84 games played. Talk about taking the game to another level! 6. Kyle Luigs’ Fire Pitch Strikeout: The fire pitch saga got better and better with each new chapter. From the ball not even lighting on fire the first time we tried it on Opening Night to the beauty that was the fire pitch thrown just a smidge outside to Jason Swan an inning later, nothing could compare to notching a K with fire pitch V3. Especially with Lady Liberty looking on approvingly from her perch in the waters beyond the outfield. 5. Hockey Pitch to Backflip Catch: DR Meadows pulled off 37 miraculous backflip catches across the tour but none were as grand as this one in Portland, Maine. It’s all about Bananaland’s Big Maple, Ryan Kellogg, as he uses the hockey stick as if it was an extension of his own body to juggle the Banana Ball six times before firing an excellent heater on the outside corner. Dustin Baber serves it up to The Doctor and he takes it home with Coxy recording it all on his make-believe camera. 4. Stilts Smashes Ball to Outfield Wall: This ball traveled about 315 feet. Absolute nuke. It never ceases to amaze that Dakota could run into a ball like this while atop five-foot stilts. Buttery backspin barrel baby. 3. Danny Hosley Plays All 9 Positions: September 16th, 2023 was the day Danny did in fact prove he can do it all. Hosley’s one of the most talented players to ever throw on a Nanners jersey so of course he was able to end this inning with a strikeout. 2. Fastest Inning in Banana Ball History: After 114 Banana Ball games this is still the only inning ever completed in under a minute. Of course such an otherworldly achievement has only been completed by our extraterrestrial man. 1. Fan Catches Foul Ball to Win Game: The greatest play in Banana Ball history. 15-year-old rising freshman Khamani Faggart was ready to become a legend when Dustin Baber smoked the foul ball towards him and his friends. Everytime I talk about this play I encourage folks to google it and read about Michael Deeb’s back-and-forth with Khamani throughout the game. It’s as the kids say, ā€œWhat dreams are made of.ā€
