A brief update that you can now find me at theorangeone.insanity.tube on the same cloud place

okay so four things: 1) a reminder that if you are a person on the app where the sky is blue go follow me at theorangeone.bsky.social 2) on Saturday I will be attempting to do a UK transport thing I'd be surprised if any of you have done before so stay tuned

I'm sorry TfL, did you try and *sneak this one past me*? The 205 links Paddington with Euston, Kings Cross and Liverpool Street - very handy for connections between London terminals - and they want to withdraw it at the Paddington end? What? haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/30-20…

well it's been a while since I last tweeted but I do have a hot take I genuinely really like Euston station. Honestly - not kidding - and not even in a contrarian way - I just actually enjoy using it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the count of East Asian characters in the RTD2 era of Doctor Who remains at zero Skipping Flux and Legend of the Sea Devils, is the last time we had one the Monk Trilogy?

oh lmao this is being dug up (I am lowkey a fan of using "Overground" to refer to the NLL/Mildmay because that's what people who use it already call it, but also I like Mildmay too)
Replying to @TheOrangeOne
I know a few people who really do actually care about this, they're alright but honestly if you're gonna do that at least be consistent and refer to the East & West India Docks & Birmingham Junction Railway instead of North London Line or Overground you pedantic lunatics

Controversial London Overground line naming opinions: Windrush is nice. I like it, it's a good call, and I think after a while it'll stick quite nicely. Think it might be my favourite. I also quite like Liberty and Mildmay.

Suffragette and Lioness are too long and are basically arguments waiting to happen, because we don't like long names and will replace them with badly shortened versions which raise issues of their own. Weaver should have been two separate lines, but as a name isn't that bad.

okay I know a lot of the non transport people aren't reading my content but this needs to be shared this is an initial pilot to remove off peak/super off peak flexible ticketing; if it succeeds then if you need to buy a flexible ticket you will be forced to pay full peak fare

LNER will say that people generally travel using Advance fares, but not everyone wants to travel at fixed times booked well in advance; additionally Advance fares have a quota and if that runs out you can be blocked from travelling entirely unless you pay the full peak fare

It's worth noting that as LNER are nationalised this is actually a government policy by stealth; this needs to not succeed or it will lead to significant fare rises for the ordinary passenger the railways starting to become more like the airlines

everyone is so angry with this but y'all need to accept that Manchester Piccadilly is in Wales, London Euston is in the Midlands, Finsbury Park is in the North, Penzance is in Scotland, Greenford is in the West and Birkenhead North is in the East now
Anyone looking for a new definition of the north and the south? Then I have one for you... Find your nearest railway station, as the crow flies. Look at the companies that serve it. Then follow the following steps in order to work out where you live:

Step 5: if you're still uncategorised, is your station served by ScotRail? Or is it served by a company with Cross in the name? If so, you are in Scotland (given the cross nature of many Scots).

Step 6: if you're still awaiting categorisation, is your station served by a company with West in the name? If so, you are in the West. Step 7: if you're still uncategorised, congratulations, you are in the East. Enjoy this one 😝
