Our personnel continue working along the border as part of Governor @GregAbbott_TX Operation Lone Star. stopping illegal crossings and deterring criminal activity between the ports of entry. Thank you to @AliBradleyTV for spending time with DPS brush teams as they worked alongside our federal partners.
#EXCLUSIVE Three interactions with nine illegal immigrants in less than three hours in the Rio Grande Valley 👀 We rode along with @TxDPS @LtChrisOlivarez as they conducted a joint operation with Border Patrol going after those crossing and trying to evade. DPS continues to work under Governor @GregAbbott_TX’s #OperationLoneStar as the fight is ongoing to secure the southern border. The agency now has some immigration authority under SB4 and 287g and is acting as a force multiplier alongside federal partners. Sources confirm more than 10k gotaways have been recorded this fiscal year. They’re still coming and evading every single day. newsnationnow.com/us-news/im…

VIDEO: DOZENS of illegal immigrants recovered from a burning trailer in South Texas. On June 4, 2026, DPS Troopers responded to assist Border Patrol Agents in a vehicle pursuit involving a tractor trailer along Highway 281 near Falfurrias. During the pursuit, Troopers deployed a tire deflation device in attempt to stop the vehicle – but the driver continued to evade until the tractor trailer caught fire. Troopers and Agents immediately removed the driver and a passenger from the vehicle’s cab and placed them under arrest. At that time, the driver informed law enforcement of additional occupants inside the trailer. Troopers and Agents quickly unlocked the trailer and rescued 39 suspected illegal immigrants before the trailer became engulfed in flames. All subjects were medically screened for injuries prior to being taken into custody. This incident is a reminder of the dangerous lengths human smugglers will go to when engaging in this criminal activity, and DPS is proud to work with our federal partners, like USBP, to stop them. We’re just four days away from Recruit Class D-2025 taking the oath and officially joining the ranks of the Texas Highway Patrol (THP)! Today, these 69 men and women reached another milestone as they received their red THP patch and wore their iconic Texas Tan uniforms for the first time during a Patch Ceremony at DPS Headquarters in Austin. The red patch is worn proudly by all DPS Troopers as they work to protect and serve. We’re so proud of this class and all the hard work they’ve put in over the last 30 weeks to prepare to become Highway Patrol Troopers! #DPS #lawenforcement #graduationday

EFFECTIVE TODAY: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has approved DPS to resume the issuance of non-domiciled commercial driver licenses (CDL) and commercial learner permits (CLP) for H-2A workers. Under FMCSA guidelines, which went into effect in March 2026, eligibility for non-domiciled credentials is limited to individuals with lawful presence status category codes H-2A, H-2B and E-2. At this time, Texas has only been approved to process H-2A CDL/CLP transactions. The resumption of issuance for customers with H-2B and E-2 status will be announced at a later date. NEW: DPS has made changes to the state’s commercial driver license (CDL) testing process. Effective today, all Texas CDL knowledge exams will be administered in English only. This change aligns Texas’ testing procedures with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) English language proficiency requirements and will help ensure that all newly licensed commercial drivers have the communication skills necessary to operate these vehicles safely on Texas roads.
