A landmark moment for maternal care.
On International Day of the Midwife, Leah Hazard delivered her petition — 71,529-strong — calling for legally enforceable caps on working hours to ensure safer births and protect midwives.
She was joined by Anna, midwife educator and CEO of All 4 Maternity and publisher of The Practicing Journal & The Student Midwife Journal, Saphiya, third year student midwife and founder of Fund Future Midwives and Gilliam Meldrum, Radical Midwives.

The UK has just announced an under-16s social media ban.
In 2019, Julie Crooks started petitioning for a social media ban for under-16s after losing her daughter Ruby at 15 to suicide.
At the time, no government in the world had done it.
Seven years later, the UK PM just announced one - but Julie says the fight isn't over.
"Ruby would have been 22 this year. I celebrated this morning, but I'm not declaring victory yet. I'll keep going until this is a real, enforceable, under-16's social media ban. I know how quickly a government promise can stall."

Henry Nowak's killer has been referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Vickrum Digwa was jailed for life with a minimum 21-year term after stabbing 18-year-old Henry repeatedly in the street. Edward Prenton started a petition on Change.org calling for charges against the police officers involved and a fully transparent investigation - now backed by over 230,000 people.
