Nearly 20 years after the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, many countries have advanced laws on education, employment and political participation. At the opening of COSP19, the work now is to turn legal recognition into lived reality, including through support systems, accessibility and participation from the beginning. This reflects the principle that persons with disabilities must be meaningfully involved in decisions that affect their lives.
